The former head chef at The Plough, a pub in Oxfordshire, UK was given the pink slip for what he thinks is an unfair reason. He just wanted to take a vacation to spend time with his infant daughter.
According to Cheezburger, The Plough is a quaint little pub in Oxfordshire, England. It’s a classic Exemplar village pub, it has a thatched roof and a good span of different beers. In the UK, village pubs serve what is known as, “uncomplicated but tasty” food and is in the Real Ale Campaign (CAMRA) guide.
In the UK, December is one of the busiest months for pubs. During the holidays more people like to eat and drink to celebrate the season. This is probably the reason his boss decided not to grant the chef his request. The Pub fired Jim Knight, the head chef, for asking to spend Christmas Day and one weekend off during the holidays with his 7 1/2 month old baby daughter.
After finding out he was fired from his position, he remembered he was the employee who created the Twitter account for the pub and was the only one with access to it. So, in the heat of the moment, the chef decided to tweet on the Plough pub’s Twitter timeline letting the public know of his departure. He tweeted: “We’d like to inform you that we’ve just fired our head chef. Unfortunately he wanted to have a weekend off this month and Christmas Day this year for family commitments so we thought we’d sack him.”
Because of the many tweets from the fired chef, visitors to the Ploughs Pub’s, web site has increased with over 5,700 visits during the last 24 hours an he’s been offered a serious job. Now he can take the new job as well as spend some time with the new addition to his family. Hopefully his new employers won’t let him manage their social media communications.
