Samsung New Dual-Screen Patent

Samsung electronic Co- Apple’s competitor in the smartphone market is looking for protection for their patents as they seek to engage a new dual screen mobile device.

Published in the U.S. Patent and trademark office’s database only yesterday, their application-no. 20130314338 seems to be a game changer. Productivity has become the new standard for smart devices. While many cultists follow their favorite brand- a multi use device makes most sense for price sensitive buyers in the marketplace. A device that can only play music (like an ipod) or only talk on the phone (like older Nokia handsets) or a device that could only do one thing well- like consume media, is no longer a favorite among buyers. Also, the tablet market has seen newcomers, like the kindle fire, or like the new windows 7 tablet. The latecomer Windows to the tablet market seeks to earn a place by having an attachable keyboard to the tablet- making it more constructive for work from the office,or homework, unlike other tablets that did not previously have the capacity to engage Microsoft office.

Of course, this marketplace is a red sea- Apple soon created special apps like “pages” that can compete with the productivity suite of Microsoft office.  Samsung and apple will have a run for their money as the smart device market quickly becomes more balanced and more competitive.

Holding down the innovation fort, Samsung’s new device would “make it possible  for a user to see a second display, either through the first, or on the second surface opposite to the first. this would enable a user to conduct two simultaneous operations, such as playing a game and holding a face-to-face conversation with another user,” according to Bloomberg.

Samsung is a smartphone giant but also a massive conglomerate with dozens of business under their parent company’s name. While a massive controversy sprung up over the late Steve jobs’ Apple touch screen and smart device technology, both giants are market place leaders and are innovators. Today while Apple innovation seems to be stalling out, Samsung is again changing the game by including much more multi-functional productivity to their touch devices.
