Couple Receives Backlash Over Naming Child Krimson Tyde

A couple from Alabama has been dealing with a lot of backlash after announcing the birth of their son, Krimson Tyde Steele. Their son is named after their favorite football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide. The couple, Summer and Steven Steele, are diehard Alabama fans.

“The reason we named him Krimson is that we are big Alabama fans and it is a very unique name and we loved it,” Summer Steele said in an interview with the Alabama Media Group back in December.

Krimson Tyde has two older brothers who are happy to take on the role of protecting their younger brother. The backlash on the internet has been immense, with many people tweeting disrespectful comments about the child’s name.

“I’m very shocked, I didn’t think people would make a very big deal about it,” said Steele. “To people speaking negatively about us naming him Krimson, it’s not their child nor family member so if they have nothing nice to say they don’t need to say nothing at all.”

The Steele family is not the only family to name their child after the Alabama Crimson Tide. A couple from Phenix City, Shane and Emily Broadhurst, named two of their children after the Tide.

Their two-year-old son is named Crimson Tide and their five-month-old daughter is named Alliegh Bama.

“I would definitely say to fulfill their fantasy. Stay Alabama fans and live every day to the fullest,” said Broadhurst. “I hate that they’re (the Steele family) having to go through that and hear a bunch of crap. You should be able to name your young’un what you want.”

Broadhurst said that being a fan of the Crimson Tide is like being part of a family.

“Alabama football seems to keep us strong,” Broadhurst said. “It keeps us focused on what we need to get done. It’s more than football to us – it’s a family. We’re severely die-hard Alabama.”
