Comedian Natasha Leggero Refuses to Apologize for Pearl Harbor Joke

Natasha Leggero is under a lot of fire for her jokes made about Pearl Harbor just a week ago. Leggero then used her Tumblr account to explain why her critics are wrong for blasting her, according to The Huffington Post.

Leggero previously judged a season of the television show “Last Comic Standing.” She appeared on NBC with Carson Daly to discuss the funniest moments of 2013 on New Year’s Eve. One topic discussed was when SpaghettiO’s tweeted the following: “take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us.”

“It sucks that the only survivors of Pearl Harbor are being mocked by the only food they can still chew,” Leggero said on NBC.

Just minutes after her comments, people took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with Leggero’s comments on NBC. Leggero then posted a statement on her website in which she did not apologize for what she said.

Part of her statement is below:

“I’m not sorry. I don’t think the amazing courage of American veterans and specifically those who survived Pearl Harbor is in any way diminished by a comedian making a joke about dentures on television. Do we really believe that the people who fought and defended our freedom against Nazis and the Axis powers will find a joke about Spaghetti O’s too much to bear? Sorry, I have more respect for Veterans than to think their honor can be impugned by a glamorous, charming comedian in a fur hat. On the other hand you have Veterans who receive inadequate care upon their return from active duty, rampant sexual assault against female soldiers, staggering rates of suicide, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, substance abuse and depression among soldiers and political gridlock that prevents these problems from getting solved quickly.”

Leggero ender her statement by adding a link to the Disabled American Veterans foundation so readers could donate money. Leggero was quickly defended by fellow comedians who were proud of her for standing her ground.
