“Short term” is how Kraft sees the current shortage. The demand has been very steep and you can see that finding the cheese is a challenge said spokeswomen Jody Moore.
“It is possible some consumers may not be able to find some Velveeta products on store shelves in the next couple weeks. This is really a short term issue….we have not heard many complaints from customers so far, but we know Velveeta is a huge hit during football parties, we are doing everything we can to resolve any issues as soon as possible,” Moore said.
Moore states extreme demand as the main reason for the shortage. With the NFL playoffs, Olympic coverage and the BCS luring the heavy dippers to their TV sets with snacks in tow, cheese fans everywhere will be high and dry until the company satisfies the markets rising demand.
The  Superbowl and the Winter Olympic games next month; cheese cravers need their fix- this shortage’s the timing could not have more untimely.
The Velveeta shortage is said to have started in a rather large number of East Coast grocery stores. A Brooklyn grocer said it could be February before any shipment of Velveeta is expected to hit their dock. While there is no real replacement for the creamiest of cheeses, panic is not yet widespread.
The CSMonitor had reported on Jan. 7, 2014,that Kraft Foods Group, Inc. had confirmed the popular cheese was in a massive shortage.
