The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards to be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres which will air on March 2 2014 on the ABC network. And will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The Academy Awards which is more commonly known as The Oscars, are U.S. awards for achievements in the film industry. The winners are awarded a golden statuette, officially the Academy Award of Merit, that is much better known by its nickname Oscar. The awards ceremony was first televised in 1953 and is now seen live in more than 200 countries.
USA Today reports that both Gravity and American Hustle are going strong with 10 nominations each. Right behind these films was 12 Years a Slave trailing with nine.
Actress Sandra Bullock earned a nomination for leading actress in the film, Gravity. Gravity is a 2013 British-USA 3D science-fiction thriller space drama film. In the film Bullock plays a medical engineer and Mission Specialist on her first mission in space. And Mexican film director Alfonso Cuaron, was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.
Robert Redford, Tom Hanks, and Oprah Winfrey all did not receive nominations for thier performances this year.
The 86th Academy Awards will reveal who will be presented with The Academy Award of Merit, the prestigious Oscar, A knight holding a crusader’s sword, standing on a reel of film.
