Bernard Lawrence “Bernie” Madoff is an American convicted of fraud and a former stockbroker, investment advisor, and financier. He is the former non-executive chairman of the NASDAQ stock market, and the admitted operator of a Ponzi scheme that is considered to be the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. Madoff’s Former computer programmers Jerome O’Hara and George Perez, knew what they were doing was fraudulent according to Bloomberg News.

The men altered time stamps and dates that were used to trick auditors. Jerome O’Hara, 47, and George Perez, 44, are each charged with one count of conspiracy, one count of falsifying records of a broker-dealer, and one count of falsifying records of an investment adviser.

Richard Dietrich, a senior technician at International Business Machines Corp., analyzed the computers that were seized from Bernie Madoff’s Midtown Manhattan office and is a prosecution expert witness.

According to Yahoo News, the attorney representing computer programmer Jerome O’Hara, warned jurors to beware of the government’s star witness and Madoff’s former finance chief, Frank DiPascali. He gave a comparison saying that he was such an architect of the fraud that his blaming other Madoff employees would be like “the Big Bad Wolf getting on the witness stand and condemning Little Red Riding Hood.” If convicted on all charges, Jerome O’Hara and George Perez face 30 years behind bars.
