He leaves Greenberg Traurig with a team of 1,700-lawyers to now be of assistance to Blank Rome that has 470-attorneys. He affirms that his departure from Greenberg was amicable.
Corwin, 66, brings significant experience in partnership law, with a special focus on business ruptures. He will practice in Blank Rome’s corporate litigation group and will be based at the firm’s New York office. Speaking on this move, Corwin says: “The size Greenberg is now, it creates more conflicts, especially for the things I do (law firm representation), to me, its déjà vu where Blank Rome is now the size Greenberg was 16 years ago.”
Corwin, a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness in New York and of the American Law Institute, has served as a Principal Shareholder since 1998 at Greenberg Traurig. His decision to now serve Blank Rome is a significant one. “Les has handled more partnership disputes for law firms and accounting firms than any other lawyer, and we are thrilled that he is bringing his unique practice to Blank Rome,” says Alan Hoffman, Chairman and Managing Partner of the firm. “While Les will be based in our New York office, he will also have a significant presence in our California and Florida offices, where he has clients and extensive litigation experience. We look forward to his many contributions as we continue to grow in existing and new markets.”
Corwin represents international and national law firms and accounting firms, broker-dealers, real estate developers in disputes, mergers and acquisitions, investment banks, hedge funds, liquidations, dissolutions, and bankruptcies. His notable skills in a full range of valuation, accounting, and ethical issues that usually occur in business ruptures have enabled him to act successfully on behalf of many large law firm dissolutions, including WolfBlock, Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, and Heller Ehrman. He has also litigated issues of first impression and testified as an expert witness.
Corwin’s practice includes elements of securities, employment law, ERISA, real estate, and bankruptcy law. His book ‘Law Firm Partnership Agreements’ released in 1998 written along with Arthur Ciampi is considered as the definitive work on this subject.
Prior to serving at Greenberg, Corwin was a Founding Partner of Morrison Cohen. During his span at Morrison, he litigated the landmark case Dawson v. White & Case, 88 N.Y. 2d 666, 649 N.Y.S. 2d 364 (1996), which established goodwill as a law firm asset and led to the legislation allowing for the sale of legal practices in the New York.
