The law firm of Ryan and Ryan 
that serves the metropolitan area of Chicago and the state of Illinois got recognition once again in the 2014 U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Lawyers’ and ‘Best Law Firms’ rankings. The firm had been part of these respective rankings in 2013 as well.
Ryan and Ryan concentrates on the practice area of eminent domain and just compensation for private property owners. The law firm was recognized as one of the ‘best law firms’ following a rigorous assessment process, involving the collection of evaluations from clients and lawyers, reviews from leading attorneys in their field, and a scrutiny of additional information provided by the law firm as part of the formal submission process. Ryan and Ryan obtained numerous million dollar increases to achieve just compensation for their clients and the highest single condemnation judgment order ever entered by an Illinois court. Attorneys at Ryan and Ryan were also able to provide a track record of success in representing their clients in eminent domain matters. All this added to the evidence got in favor of Ryan and Ryan, landing it in the second tier.
Since law firms are often separated by small or insignificant differences in overall score, a tiering system rather than the ranking system is used in the ‘Best Law Firm’ list. The first tier in each metropolitan area includes those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the highest-scoring firm(s). The second tier comprises those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the next highest scoring firm. Ryan and Ryan received recognition in the second-tier for its eminent domain and condemnation law practice areas in Chicago.

He has consistently held a rank on this list since 2007. Besides this, he has been recognized as Lawyer of the Year in Chicago for 2014.
