Matt A. Vega Named Dean of Thomas Goode Jones School of Law

Faulkner University has named Matt. A. Vega as dean of the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law effective June 1. 2014. Vega will be succeeding Charles I. Nelson who was the deal of the law school for the last decade. A thorough national search had been conducted before deciding upon the next dean for the law school.

Vega is a member of Faulker’s Jones School of Law, which he joined in 2007. After graduating from Yale Law School in 1993, Vega worked in different capacities in the legal profession. He started as an associate at Sirote & Permutt law firm in Birmingham, Alabama, then followed up with different jobs including serving as corporate counsel for Bruno’s, Inc., Advantica Restaurant Group, Inc., and Federal Express Corp. At FedEx, Vega was responsible for corporate compliance with Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, as well as worldwide anti-terrorism and supply chain security laws. He worked as a senior counsel at FedEx.

Speaking on Vega’s nomination, Billy D. Hilyer, the president of Faulkner University, said, “Matt Vega has a great vision for the future of Jones Law School and will work collaboratively with the faculty there to develop and implement a strategic plan for continued growth and success.” He said, “Matt is a proven and experienced attorney, and an accomplished legal scholar and teacher. I have no doubt that the law school will continue to excel in preparing its graduates to contribute to the legal profession under his leadership.”

During his student years, Vega served as the executive editor of the Yale Journal of Regulation and also a member of the Yale Moot Court Board. Currently he is an enrolled member of the Alabama and Tennessee Bar associations.
