A lawsuit has been filed against the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” by a lawyer who is also an investment banker, according to ABC News. The lawsuit claims that the movie defames the plaintiff and is asking for it to be removed from theaters and for $25 million in damages. The film was directed by Martin Scorsese.
The plaintiff, Andrew Greene, filed the complaint on Tuesday in United States District Court in the Eastern District of New York. The lawsuit was filed against Paramount Pictures and the filmmakers. Greene claims that the character of Nicky “Rugrat” Koskoff was modeled based on Greene. Greene has a real-life nickname of “Wigwam” due to his hairpiece. The character wears a rug in the movie.
The movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is based on the 2007 book from Jordan Belfort, the founder of brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont.
Greene worked as the firm’s head of corporate finance in the decade of the 1990s and the lawsuit claims that he never gave the filmmakers permission to use his likeness in the film.
In the lawsuit, Greene says that the movie makes him out to look like a drug user, a depraved criminal and a degenerate. Actor P.J. Byrne portrays the character of “Rugrat” in the movie. The character uses cocaine and has sex with prostitutes in the film.
The movie has been nominated for five Academy Awards, including best director and best picture.
