Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP , one of the nation’s leading law and consulting firms, has hired Arunabha Bhoumik, a U.S. Department of Justice prosecutor, who worked in the fraud section of the criminal division.
In February Manatt added a few new partners to the firm, including top entertainment litigator John Gatti in Los Angeles and financial services litigator Andrew Zimmitti in Washington, D.C. . The law firm has hired Bhoumik as a partner in the litigation division in their New York office.
Bhoumik was lead prosecutor in many grand jury investigations and prosecutions, including fraud, false claims, money laundering and violations of the Anti-Kickback Statue in the healthcare industry.
“With the wholesale transformation of our healthcare system fully underway, healthcare litigation is on the rise and the complexity of cases is growing,” said Matt Kanny, chair of the firm’s national Litigation Division. “Arun is a highly skilled litigator whose experience trying federal cases laced with hotbutton issues important to our clients makes him a strong addition to the team. We’re excited to have Arun back at Manatt.”
Before joining The Justice Department, Bhoumik was an associate at Manatt, working with individuals in many commercial lawsuits, government investigations, healthcare fraud, securities and public corruption.
“After a rewarding experience in the public sector, the decision on where to resume my private practice was both important and fairly simple. If the opportunity presented itself, I wanted to return to Manatt,” Bhoumik said. “The firm has a well-deserved reputation for superior litigation capabilities and sophisticated work in the areas of white collar defense and investigations. The knowledge I gained while working as an associate under the guidance of Manatt litigators was invaluable during my time at the Justice Department. I’m excited to return with new insights and look forward to again working alongside this distinguished team.”
