A man from Independence Township, Michigan accidentally shot and killed himself while demonstrating gun safety, according to The Detroit Free Press.
Authorities said that the 36-year-old man, whose name has yet to be released by police, was trying to teach his girlfriend gun safety after he finished drinking.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched after 9 p.m. on Sunday to a home located on the 4400 block of Pinedale. Upon arrival, the deputies found the girlfriend of the man performing CPR.
The deputies were told by the girlfriend that her boyfriend was drinking all day and tried to explain to her that his three guns are safe when not loaded. He then demonstrated this by placing one of his guns against his head and pulling the trigger, according to Undersheriff Michael McCabe.
The man did this for all three guns, with the third gun discharging. He was pronounced dead at the scene. McCabe told the Detroit Free Press that three children between the ages of 7 and 12 were home when the accident happened, but did not see it occur. None of the children were injured. They also are not the children of the man.
The sheriff’s deputies have yet to close the case and are continuing their investigation.
