On Tuesday, President Barack Obama appeared on the internet talk show of Zach Galifianakis, “Between Two Ferns,” according to the Huffington Post.
The New York Times spoke to White House aides who said that Obama appeared on the show in an effort to encourage youth in the country to enroll in Obamacare using Healthcare.gov.
Obama had not trouble making jokes throughout the appearance on the show with the popular comedian. He told the actor that if he ran for a third term in the White House it would be like making a third “Hangover” movie, which the actor did in 2013.
“Didn’t really work out very well, did it?” Obama said.
In his promotion of Obamacare, the president said, “I think it’s fair to say that I wouldn’t be with you here today if I didn’t have something to plug.”
Galifianakis did not hold back during the interview, asking Obama about building his presidential library “in your home country of Kenya.” He also wanted to know what it would be like when people stopped letting him win at basketball.
Obama has appeared on multiple talk shows during his time as president and has even hosted Google Hangouts that have appeared on entertainment networks. The appearance on “Between Two Ferns” is a first for the president. The show can be very off-color and crazy. Galifianakis even spanked Justin Bieber in an episode.
The New York Times spoke to Dan Pfeiffer, Obama’s senior adviser.
“We have to find ways to break through,†said Pfeiffer. “This is essentially an extension of the code we have been trying to crack for seven years now.â€
