Jenny McCarthy Questioned on Twitter about Anti-Vax

On the popular blog site Cheezburger.com there is an article titled, “Anti-Vax Jenny McCarthy Asks Twitter a Question, and Gets the Answers She Should Have Seen Coming.” The blog post discussion is centered on actress, Playboy Playmate and host of the ABC talk show The View, Jenny McCarthy and the star’s outlandish claims of “curing” her son’s autism with a gluten-free diet. According to the New York Daily News, The View co-host has been candid about her son’s battle with autism since he was diagnosed at age 2 in May 2005.

Jenny McCarthy has claimed that vaccines cause autism and that chelation therapy helped cure her son of autism. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child’s life. Although there is no known cure, there have been reported cases of children who recovered. McCarthy has written books about parenting, and has become an activist promoting research into environmental causes and alternative medical treatments for autism.

The cheezburger site shares Jenny McCarthy’s Twitter post question and answer session that she shared with her online readers and reviews some of the responses that the moderators feel the star should have known were coming.

According to EOnline, Jenny McCarthy, 41, asked her 1.13 million Twitter followers a question on March 13: “What is the most important personality trait you look for in a mate? Reply using #JennyAsks.”

“Somebody who gets that refusing vaccines because of ‘toxins’ and then shilling for e-cigs makes you a pathetic hypocrite,” was the response of one user and “Someone who doesn’t spread false info causing disease,” reportedly was another reply. Cheezburger felt McCarthy should have expected this kind of backlash with her what do you want in a mate post, and to the sites credit, her replies went in the direction of, “what I want in a mate? Someone with enough grasp of reality to know that Botox is toxic and vaccines aren’t.”

Michael Specter, writing in The New Yorker on Jenny Mcarthy co- hosting The View, stated that “Jenny McCarthy…will be the show’s first co-host whose dangerous views on childhood vaccination may—if only indirectly—have contributed to the sickness and death of people throughout the Western world. McCarthy, who is savvy, telegenic, and pulchritudinous, is also the person most visibly associated with the deadly and authoritatively discredited anti-vaccine movement in the United States.”

Toronto Public Health officially denounced her appointment to the show and “launched a Twitter campaign to get model and actress Jenny McCarthy fired from the ABC show The View.”
