The number of new students and faculty members for the next school year will be trimmed by the University at Buffalo Law School, according to The Buffalo News.
The number of first-year law students will be reduced from the current number of 2oo-225 to under 200. The number of faculty members will drop from 48 to 40 using retirement incentives, according to spokesman John DellaContrada.
The dean of the law school, Makau Mutua, declined comment on the issue.
In the most recent U.S. News and World Report’s ranking of the top law schools in the country, the University at Buffalo Law School was tied for 100th place. There are some 650 full-and-part-time law students enrolled at the school. Applications dropped from 1,894 in 2010 to 1,146 last year.
In 2012, the school graduated 209 students, with 109 of them acquiring a full-time job that required them to pass the bar exam, according to the ABA. Other grads from 2012 worked in short-term or part-time jobs. One of the graduates enrolled in graduate school and 35 others were still looking for jobs, decided against working, or did not update their status.
Annual tuition at University at Buffalo Law School is $24,000, which means the three-year cost for the program comes in at $72,000.
