McAnany Van Cleave and Phillips PA Opens Second Office in Missouri

The law firm of McAnany Van Cleave and Phillips PA has announced that it opened a new bi-state campus on Wednesday, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

Prior to the announcement, the headquarters for the firm were located across the state line in Kansas. Now, another facility has been added just a quarter-mile from the original location. This one will be on the Missouri side of the state line. The location in Missouri will house administrative staff members.

“We could have kept our administrative staff in Kansas,” John Jurcyk said. Jurcyk is an attorney who played a part in the addition of the second location. “There’s office space up on the hill behind us where we could have put them, but we chose to go to Missouri to make a statement about bistate cooperation (and) of support for the community.”

Jurcyk said that having an office on both sides of the state lines brings benefits. If a subpoena needs to be issued for a witness taking part in litigation in Missouri, the firm will have an office to do this. He also noted that businesses looking for representation search for firms by location. This is why it is helpful to have locations in both Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas.

“It changes our business filings, it changes our tax filings, it changes our situation with how we have to interact with our licenses and all that,” Jurcyk said. “But it was a conscious decision to go there. I think it’s important. Kansas City, Kan., can’t succeed without Kansas City, Mo. The communities are interdependent and always will be.”

A whole host of dignitaries and politicians attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday. That list includes members of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and Kansas State Representative Pam Curtis.
