The collapse of Heenan Blaikie LLP in Canada is being as closely watched as the saga of the fall of Dewey & LeBoeuf in U.S., both being the largest law firm collapses in their respective countries. However, this weekend there were some good news about the Heenan Blaikie collapse, and Fasken Martinueau LLP announced that 30 lawyers from Heenan Blaikie, including 15 partners are joining its offices in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
The new partners in Toronto joining in the labor, employment and human rights group are Brian Burkett, John Craig, Douglas Gilbert, Sarah Graves, Christina Hall and Mathias Link. Those joining the Ottowa office include Sebastien Lorquet and Claire Vachon, and they, too, are joining the Labor, Employment and Human Rights Group. And Fasken is recruiting partners in the same practice group also in Montreal, where Robert Dupont, Stephane Fillion, Simon Laberge, Rheaume Perreault and Yves Turgeon are joining. Two partners, Carl Belanger and Neil Wiener are joining in the Corporate-Commercial group, also in Montreal.
In a statement released by the law firm, Fasken’s labor, employment and human rights group leader Ralph Nero said, “We have reinforced the firm’s position as a national leader in labor and employment law, further expanding our capabilities and providing clients with an even greater level of depth and expertise” Bloomberg News reported.
