Same-sex marriage was recently legalized in England and TVGuide.com has reported that the couple has been together since 1993 and that they entered into a British civil partnership on the day it came into law in 2005. Now, it has been reported that Elton John and his longtime partner David Furnish will legally tie the knot in May 2014. In his five-decade career Elton John has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Having been named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1996, John received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for “services to music and charitable services” in 1998.
According to Ontheredcarpet.com David Furnish shared that, “We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example.”
Pop icon Elton John and former advertising executive and now filmmaker David Furnish, have two children together, Zachary, 3, and Elijah who is 16 months.
Fox News reported that, the final stage in the long fight for legal equality for gays and lesbians took effect in England, with a new historic law legalizing same-sex marriages.
Elton John said in an interview according to Yahoo News that, “I’m very proud of Britain and the laws that we’ve seen come into existence since we’ve been together.”
According to Raw Story, David Furnish told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a separate interview that an intimate ceremony would be taking place in May. The Examiner reported that he said unlike the lavish reception the couple had back in 2005, they plan to keep things simple when they wed. “I think what we’ll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses,” Furnish said.
