James Valentine Chainsaw Blade Stuck In Neck

James Valentine was taking down a tree in Ross Township, Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon when the chainsaw suddenly ‘kicked out.’ James Valentine was struck in the neck by the saw. The tree trimmer, according to the Huffington Post, was rushed to a Pittsburgh hospital with the chain saw blade still embedded in his neck.

It has been reported that another worker had helped Valentine down, and his co-workers left the saw in place to try to limit the bleeding.

CNN News reported that, according to hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Davis, on the ambulance ride to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, James Valentine was awake and alert.

Valentine told KDKA that, “It was just a freak accident. It could happen to anybody climbing a tree” that” The chainsaw came back at me and got stuck in my neck.”

Doctors at Allegheny General Hospital reported that the saw missed major arteries and, instead, cut into muscle. Trauma surgeon Christine Toevs said that according to Metro UK, “He was extraordinarily lucky and very blessed.” An X-ray was released showing the saw still in James Valentine’s neck. The blade cut 2 inches deep, with the bulk of the damage done to Valentine’s shoulder. According to Pittsburgh Action News 4, he needed 30 stitches to close the wound.

James Valentine works for Dominic Migliozzi, owner of Adler Tree Service in Gibsonia. According to the Huffington Post, Migliozzi calls the rescue “amazing.”
