The law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP announced via a press release today that it has added Lori Alvino McGill to its office in Washington, D.C. as a partner.
McGill joins the firm from Latham & Watkins. She focused on appellate cases in the United States Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
John B. Quinn, the firm’s managing partner, said, “We have been looking for an appellate star for our Washington, D.C. office for some time. We found her in Lori.”
The chair of the Appellate Group at the firm, Kathleen Sullivan, said, “I have worked shoulder to shoulder with Lori on a number of Supreme Court cases. It is rare to find someone so young who has achieved such a high level of mastery of appellate advocacy. Everyone in our group is excited to have Lori with us.”
McGill earned her B.A from Columbia University and earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School. McGill spent time as a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. McGill spent time as a Bristow Fellow in the Office of the Solicitor General of the United States before starting her career in private practice.
“Quinn Emanuel routinely handles cutting-edge and bet-the-company cases for its clients. That naturally sets up a really exciting—and probably unparalleled—platform for an appellate lawyer like me, because the firm is consistently generating more interesting and high-stakes appellate work than most of its peers. And the chance to partner with Kathleen Sullivan was the icing on the cake,” McGill said.
