On Friday, a baby that was born with 4 arms and 4 legs had his extra limbs surgically removed. The baby baby was born April 2 in the Guangdong Province of China. According to the Global Times, the baby is resting and in stable condition at this time. The chief surgeon at Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center, Yu Jiakang, told the Yangcheng Evening News that the baby was born joined at the torso to a headless parasitic twin.
According to the Evening News, the mother underwent five examinations at various local clinics and hospitals, and doctors found no abnormalities with the fetus. The baby boys father, identified only as “Mr. Chen” told ImagineChina that he felt guilty about his son’s birth defects because he did not arrange for his wife to receive good enough care. “I only cared about my work,” he said. “I just thought of making money instead of taking (my wife) to hospital for a medical checkup.”
For any parents the health and welfare of their child is of the utmost priority. The guilt and regret of the father of this child is manifest as he sees the error of his ways. There is no question that if Mr. Chen were to have another baby, that he would ensure proper prenatal care for his wife. Around the world prenatal care is an issue especially in areas with low per capita income and GDP.
