Florida law firm Carlton Fields Jorden Burt announced the opening of one more office in Los Angeles (LA). This expansion announcement comes just a few months after the merger that gave the firm a base in Connecticut and another in Washington DC. With the addition of the LA office, the law firm now has 11 offices with over 370 attorneys and government consultants.
While the firm advises clients on sophisticated business transactions across a range of issues and industries nationally, international clients seek the law firm’s services for handling litigation and business transactions.
The firm’s President and Chief Executive Officer Gary L. Sasso said, “We have substantial clients, cases, and transactions in California. So opening an office in Los Angeles is a natural progression of our growth.” He explained that the firm’s class-action defense work in particular had driven them into California, where many such cases are filed. He also informed that they anticipate other synergies as well considering that California, Florida, and New York are international hubs, and have strong financial services, real estate, technology, and health care and life sciences sectors.
The LA office will be led by Mark A. Neubauer who was formerly the Nation Chief of Steptoe & Johnson’s litigation practice and member of that firm’s executive committee.
“Mark knows this market well, and he is extremely able,” Sasso said. “We are confident he will help us establish and grow a strong presence in California.”
Showing his excitement to work with Sasso, his close friend of more than 20 years, Neubauer said, “The chance to work with him and the other great lawyers at Carlton Fields Jorden Burt was too attractive an opportunity to pass up. I have enjoyed my time with Steptoe a great deal and working with my wonderful colleagues there, but I am excited about the opportunity of taking on this new challenge.”
Neubauer, who is a member of the California State and the District of Columbia Bar, focuses his practice on sophisticated litigation including antitrust, real estate, commercial, securities, employment, and entertainment. He has held a number of leadership positions in his 30-plus years of practice and has successfully tried numerous jury and bench cases in both state and federal courts. Now he will be offering his expertise through the Carlton Fields Jorden Burt LA office located in the Century Plaza Towers.
