Terri Shieh-Newton Joins Mintz Levin’s IP Practice Group in San Francisco

Dr. Terri Shieh-Newton, the former co-chair of the stem cell and regenerative medicine practice at Morrison & Foerster has joined Mintz Levin’s Intellectual Property Practice group in San Francisco. The addition of Shieh-Newton reconfirms Mintz Levin’s commitment to strengthening their life sciences capabilities, as the hire comes on the heels of the addition of three more IP attorneys with medical technology experience at the law firm’s Boston office.

Dr. Shieh-Newton, holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Medicine from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and she works with a range of life sciences clients in areas including stem cells, immunology, regenerative medicine, antibodies, virologyvaccines, cancer immunotherapy, and etcetera. Her work also includes diagnostics, and assays for personalized treatment of cancer, and immunological diseases such as HIV, autoimmune diseases, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Her practice focuses on strategic patent counseling, comprehensive portfolio management, construction of valuable portfolios, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, interferences, reissues, and reexaminations in the life sciences and clean technology sectors. She manages and conducts due diligence for both private and public companies and investors.

Dr. Shieh-Newton also works with clean technology clients on matters relating to biofuels, microbial engineering, enzymes, enzymatic engineering, i industrial fermentation, and production of target chemical using biological processes.

In addition to her Ph.D., Dr. Shieh-Newton holds a B.A. in Biochemistry from Rice University and a J.D. from Santa Clara Law School. She is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
