Blank Rome LLP
Mr. Silversmith joins Blank Rome from the Southern Criminal Enforcement Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division, where he was a trial attorney prosecuting criminal tax cases in federal courts throughout the United States.
He has significant experience prosecuting cases involving tax evasion, failure to pay employment taxes, money laundering, and bank fraud.
He also worked with the Tax Division’s Civil Division and regularly counseled IRS agents and attorneys on civil collection matters. As part of his work at the Tax Division, Mr. Silversmith worked on investigations of taxpayers with undisclosed foreign bank accounts and other offshore matters. Mr. Silversmith received three outstanding attorney awards from the Tax Division during his tenure.
Prior to working at the Tax Division, Mr. Silversmith served as a trial attorney for the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, where he worked on various investigations involving the manipulation and false reporting of energy prices.
He also handled a number of enforcement matters in federal court. Prior to joining the federal government, Mr. Silversmith worked at an international law firm and served as a law clerk for the Honorable James T. Turner, U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Washington, Mr. Silversmith received his Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania, and his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Duke University.
