Wendy Scott Takes Over as Dean of Mississippi College School of Law in August

Wendy Scott has been named the next dean at the Mississippi College School of Law and the first African-American to serve in the position, according to the MBJ Business Blog. Scott will also become just the second woman to lead the school. She will succeed Jim Rosenblatt on August 11 as the new dean. Rosenblatt will work as a full-time professor at the school.

Scott has been teaching at the North Carolina Central University School of law since 2006. From 2009 to 2012, Scott served as the associate dean for academic affairs. She has also worked at Tulane University Law School for 17 years.

According to MBJ Business Blog, the president of Mississippi College, Lee Royce, said the following:

“Professor Scott brings a lifetime of exceptional service to the position, having distinguished herself as a lawyer, teacher, legal scholar and administrator. We are so pleased to have someone so well known and respected in the legal academy provide leadership to our law school.’’

Scott spoke with MBJ Business Blog, saying, “MC Law has what any dean would want. MC Law has a talented faculty, exceptional students, a hard working staff, dedicated alumni, an attractive facility and a supportive university administration. I look forward to working with all of the constituents of the Law School to continue providing an excellent educational experience to our students and service to the people of Mississippi.’’

Scott graduated from Harvard University and New York University Law School.

Rosenblatt told MBJ Business Blog the following: “Professor Scott has the background and interest to tie MC Law’s legal education mission with community initiatives to promote social justice and to provide practical learning opportunities for its law students.”



Scott has been active in the Baptist community everywhere she has lived along with her husband, Rev. Eddie Scott.

“Wendy Scott is an excellent fit for the Christian mission of Mississippi College. We look forward to her fine leadership of the law school,” Royce told MBJ Business Blog.
