It was announced this week by Mayer Brown that the firm will establish a Corporate & Securities practice in the Palo Alto office. According to the release from the firm, Jennifer Carlson and Nina Flax will relocate to Palo Alto from Chicago.
“The addition of Jen and Nina to the Palo Alto office bolsters Mayer Brown’s ability to provide legal counsel in California to both domestic and foreign companies doing business in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley, particularly on transactions related to capital markets, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border joint ventures and corporate governance,” said Edward D. Johnson, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s Palo Alto office.
Carlson said the following in the release: “California is one of the fastest-growing international economies, and companies across the globe—particularly those based in East Asia—are increasingly looking to invest or operate in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Therefore, it is more important than ever for such companies to have access to a law firm with a local presence and strong global platform—like Mayer Brown—to advise them on cross-border M&A, capital markets and general corporate matters.”
Carlson represents clients who are underwriters, investors and companies in capital markets and finance transactions. Carlson belongs to the Northern California Chapter of the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals and the Northwestern Law Alumni Club of San Francisco Bay Area. She earned her law degree from Northwestern University School of Law and her BA from Augustana College.
In the release, Flax said the following about the move to Palo Alto: “California presents many opportunities for companies in various sectors, including technology, financial services, renewable energy, agribusiness, consumer products and insurance, which are all strong areas of Mayer Brown. Jen and I look forward to capitalizing on our relationships with the firm’s offices in Asia and Latin America to better serve current and future clients in these sectors.”
Flax represents buyers and sellers with domestic and international stock and asset acquisitions.
According to the release, Flax belongs to the Harvard Law School Women’s Alliance of San Francisco. She earned her law degree from Harvard Law School and her BA from Duke University.
