A recent college graduate from Bridge Park, Connecticut, Jason Raikes, has decided to record what he has seen in life so far. The video has been posted online and has received thousands of views so far.
Raikes is not headed to law school and some of what he has seen growing up hits home with millions of people in this country. We recommend that you watch this video, which consists of just Raikes talking while on camera. It is a little over 10 minutes long, but is definitely worth it.
One of the most telling parts of his video is when Raikes says the following:
“I think a lot of us, from the 90s, had this notion that everything is all said and good until we’re hit smack-dab in the face with reality and realize that racism is still a thing, prejudice is still a thing, sexism is still a thing. It’s not gone, it’s just taken a different shape and form to the point where it’s more subtle and harder to pick up on.”

“So, when I look at the concept of say, racism now, I think it’s more along the lines of an idea that people put inside our heads that one particular person is inferior, whether they are or not. It’s not the fact that if it’s true or not, it’s the idea in which they are able to pass on to us because true power is influence.”
