Toledo based Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP announced a major addition to the firm this week: that of former Ohio Attorney General, Jim Petro. Petro has joined the firm as Of Counsel.
Jim served as Attorney General for the State of Ohio from 2003 to 2007. While there, Jim oversaw the work of more than 400 attorneys in the office.
Prior to serving as Attorney General, Jim was elected Ohio Auditor of State in 1994 and re-elected in 1998, serving two terms. As State Auditor, Jim served as the chief inspector and supervisor of public offices in the state. The office is the largest state auditing agency in the United States, second in size only to the United States Government Accountability Office.
Most recently, Jim served as Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, appointed in March 2011 by Governor John Kasich. While Chancellor, Jim lead the University System of Ohio, which is one of the largest comprehensive systems of public higher education in the nation. The University System of Ohio oversees all of Ohio’s public four-year and two-year institutions. Jim retired as Chancellor in 2013.

A graduate of Denison University and Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Jim has served in many public offices at the city, county and state levels. His 41 year legal career has included litigating cases in venues from Mayor’s Court to the United States Supreme Court. “I’ve always considered SLK as a truly great law firm.
