Seattle based law firm Harris Moure announced the opening of a new office in Las Vegas in conjunction with the Las Vegas firm Silvestri Gidvani this week. Harris Moure is a boutique Seattle firm with lawyers in Chicago, Beijing, and Qingdao. They are also very active in supporting legal businesses in marijuana and run a blog on the subject.
Harris Moure’s Las Vegas office will initially consist of three attorneys Gregory Buhyoff, Neal Gidvani, and Phillip Silvestri. The Silvestri Gidvani lawyers will continue their banking and general business practices, while also focusing on regulated substances (including both cannabis and alcohol) and restaurant and bar law. The firm said that opening a Las Vegas office will both strengthen and expand the firm’s cannabis business law practice.
Buhyoff, who heads up the firm’s intellectual property practice, will be splitting his time between the Las Vegas and Seattle offices. He will continue to emphasize both international and domestic intellectual property law.
Nevada recently revised its existing medical marijuana laws and the City of Las Vegas now permits medical marijuana establishments within city limits. A number of the firm’s existing cannabis clients from other states will be conducting business in Nevada once its medical marijuana regime becomes fully operational.
According to Hilary Bricken, who heads up the firm’s cannabis business practice, Harris Moure’s Nevada cannabis practice is growing at a rapid pace due to legalization there. “We have a strong relationship with Neal Gidvani and Phil Silvestri and it had become apparent that bringing them on board was the way to go for all parties,” said Bricken.
He further added on the tie-up with Gidvani and Silvestri, and said, “We need them to help service our Nevada clients and growth; their legal skills and their local connections are critical for both us and our clients. We have been representing cannabis businesses since 2010 and our move into Nevada is a logical one both for us and for our clients, many of whom are taking their cannabis businesses national.”
