Jacob Lavoro, 19, faces years in prison for making brownies that were laced with marijuana and hash oil, according to the New York Post. Lavoro said that he is scared right now even though there is new evidence suggesting he could see reduced charges, according to his attorney.
Lavoro is from Texas and the court appearance are taking place in Williamson County courthouse close to Austin. He was making his second court appearance since his arrest in April.
Lavoro has been accused of selling the brownies for $25. He is facing felony charges that could result in five years in prison to life in prison.
The attorney for Lavoro, Jack Holmes, said that lab results show there was just 2.5 grams of marijuana’s psychoactive ingredient of THC in the brownies. There was another jar of 145 grams of hash oil found by authorities.
“I’m scared. Very scared,” Lavoro said. “I’m 19 years old and still have a whole life ahead of me. Take that into account.”

Mark Brunner, the First District Attorney, said that prosecutors do not want to send Lavoro to prison for life. He also said that he has offered Lavoro a plea deal that would be for a lesser felony charge with no jail time. He would just have to stay out of trouble.
“If this was just some college kid experimenting in his friend’s Easy-Bake Oven, with a reefer’s worth of pot and a bunch of brownies, that’d be different,” Brunner said. “This man was trying to run a business, allegedly.”
There is another hearing scheduled in September, which is when Holmes will argue for the charges to be dropped completely on the basis that the apartment for Lavoro was unlawfully searched.
