Now, Lowenstein Sandler enters the Washington D.C. market with an office at 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The new office will initially focus on antitrust, investment management, and commercial and insurance litigation practices. Jeff Blumenfield (antitrust chair at Lowenstein Sandler), Miguel Pozo (litigation partner), and Matthew Magidson (investment management partner) will relocate from New York and New Jersey. Andrew Reidy and Cathy Serafin will join them as insurance litigation partners. Counsel Joseph Saka and associate Courtney Alvarez, both formerly of Dickstein Shapiro, will be joining the D.C. office as well. Michael McGaughey, also previously of Dickstein Shapiro, will join Lowenstein Sandler as a partner in the Los Angeles office, expanding its litigation capabilities in California. The new office will continue to expand by recruiting attorneys for litigation practices, as well as intellectual property, life sciences, technology, investment management and capital markets-based practices.

The New Team
Andrew Reidy centers his practice on Directors & Officers and Errors & Omissions insurance policies. He has represented policyholders against insurance companies in commercial liability, directors and officers, property, errors and omissions, crime, and fidelity policy claims. For more than 25 years, he has successfully tried insurance cases, and has also argued complex issues before the highest courts of Massachusetts, Iowa, and Delaware.
Cathy Serafin has won hundreds of millions of dollars in recoveries in her representation of policyholders against insurance companies. She focuses on bad faith claim denials in her practice. She has experience in a broad range of claims, including securities fraud, product liability, environmental liability, defamation, construction defects, theft, and business interruption losses.
Michael McGaughey’s clients are mainly corporate policy holders. His practice in both federal and state courts includes cases involving antitrust, unfair competition, unfair business practices, breach of contract, business torts, civil investigative demands, RESPA, and class actions. His clients include those in the refining, manufacturing, aerospace, paper and forest products, banking, juice products, and recycling industries.
Jeff Blumenfield is the chair of Lowenstein Sandler’s Antitrust & Trade Regulation practice. He also serves on Lowenstein’s Tech Group, in which he counsels clients and their investors on competition issues.
Miguel Pozo proudly serves as the National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association. He has more than 15 years of experience with Lowenstein Sandler. His practice includes helping clients protect intellectual property rights, especially in social media platforms.
Matthew Magidson is a partner with the firm’s Investment Management Group. He also chairs the Derivatives and Structured Products Practice. He assists his clients with transactions, specifically complex agreements and credit facilities. He also advises derivative clients on regulatory compliance issues, including Dodd-Frank and possible future regulations.
Joseph Saka has primarily practiced insurance litigation, including mass torts, business torts, professional liability, and fiduciary claims. He has assisted his clients with first party property claims and prospective insurance placement.
Courtney Alvarez’s extensive practice in insurance coverage includes directors and officers liabilities, government investigations, professional errors and omissions liabilities, products liabilities, and environmental liabilities. She has represented defense contracting firms, financial services firms, automobile parts manufacturers, government-sponsored enterprises, regulated utilities, and individual directors and officers.
