Summary: An elderly woman was viciously attacked by her granddaughter and her granddaughter’s husband over $80. She was also robbed by the pair, but police caught up with the suspects and they have now been arrested.
25-year-old Brigitte Matzke and her 26-year-old husband Alex Caldwell were arrested on August 11 after cops responded to a 911 call that reported screaming and banging coming from the home of 84-year-old Aida Matzke. According to Huffington Post, the elderly grandmother was found sitting alone outside her home on her front stoop, crying. Brigette and Caldwell had gone to Aida’s home earlier that night and demanded $80 so that they could stay in a hotel. Aida said no, and Brigette became violent, grabbing her grandmother, ripping off her bra, and twisting her wrists. After she physically attacked her grandmother, she decided to ransack the house for valuable items. She stole her grandmother’s jewelry and cell phone, valued at $1,900.00.
The couple’s vehicle was later spotted in South Daytona parked at a gas station. Caldwell was arrested after being located in the car, and Matzke was found shortly thereafter in the men’s restroom inside the gas station. The pair was charged with false imprisonment, possession of methamphetamine, threatening a witness, grand theft, and assault and battery.
