The law firm of Mayer Brown has announced via a press release that Jeff Legault has joined the firm in its New York office. Legault will work as a partner in the Corporate & Securities practice. He joins the firm from Reed Smith’s office in New York.

Philip Brandes, a partner and co-leader of the firm’s Global Corporate & Securities practice, said the following in the release:

“Jeff has a strong track record of handling public and private mergers and acquisitions transactions, particularly on behalf of private equity firms based in the US and around the world. His experience further expands the depth and breadth of the firm’s private equity capabilities and complements our focus on private investment funds.”

Legault centers his practice around mergers and acquisitions in the private and public sectors. He has represented clients on issues involving financial services, industrial and manufacturing. He has experience working on strategic alliances, joint ventures, proxy fights, asset securitizations and general corporate legal issues.

Legault said the following in the release: “Mayer Brown’s strong international presence provides an ideal platform for the global nature of my work and will enable me to better serve private equity funds and family offices on M&A transactions, particularly in Latin America. The firm has a great reputation for providing quality legal counsel, and I look forward to contributing to the continued expansion of the Corporate & Securities practice by collaborating with my new colleagues on cross-border, cross-practice matters.”

Legault earned his BA from Queen’s University in Ontario and his law degree from the University of Toronto.



The partner-in-charge at the New York office, Richard Spehr, said: “Jeff’s arrival further accelerates the positive momentum and growth of the New York office, where we have already added five new partners in 2014 in key practice areas to help better serve the needs of our clients.”
