Irell & Manella LLP announced on Thursday that a group of six lawyers including veteran corporate media attorney Joshua Grode has joined the law firm. All six are known to have left Liner Grode Stein Yankelevitz Sunshine Regenstrief & Taylor LLP. Grode will serve as co-chair of the transactions practice group along with the current chair, Gregory Klein.
Other lawyers joining the Los Angeles office of the firm, along with Grode include corporate media and entertainment attorneys Paul D. Swanson and Sam A. Kozhaya and associates David Evans, Esther Kang and Zachary Smith.

Grode is a top entertainment dealmaker and advisor with decades of expertise in mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financings and corporate governance matters. He handles intellectual property across a wide range of industries with special emphasis on media and entertainment. He regularly facilitates video game financing, film and TV projects and mergers and acquisitions including advising Colony Capital in the $660 million purchase of Miramax Films for Disney. He also played a crucial lead role in the financing of Summit Entertainment and its eventual sale to Lionsgate.
The Hollywood Reporter has named Grode to its “Power Lawyers” list of the 100 most influential entertainment lawyers in the nation every year since 2007. He has also been recognized as a leading entertainment dealmaker by Variety, the Los Angeles Business Journal and Super Lawyers magazine, among others.
Grode earned his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1991 and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1988.
