In June 2011, JD Journal reported that an Illinois attorney, Reema Bajaj, was charged with three counts of prostitution. The charges were prostitution within 1,000 feet of a school and two counts of prostitution. The first count carried up to three years in prison, and the other two counts carried less than a year in a county jail.
Apparently, the incidents occurred on August 13, 2010, and another occurred that May. Bajaj admitted she had participated in prostitution before receiving her law license, but she stopped after she became an attorney.
ABAJournal reported that Bajaj worked as a “call girl” for six years during law school. She apparently used the income to open her own law practice as well.
The Sun Times reported that Bajaj pled guilty to the misdemeanor prostitution charge. She agreed to two years of court supervision, a $2500 fine, 50 hours of community service and a psychological evaluation in exchange for the state’s dismissal of the felony charge and the remaining misdemeanor.
According to the ABA Journal, Bajaj has now been suspended from the practice of law for three years. The 28-year-old attorney had created a profile using the alias “Nikita” on adultfriendfinder.com. Two men answered the ads, and Bajaj performed sex acts with them. The attorney denied receiving money for the acts.
However, the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission didn’t buy the argument. They stated that Bajaj failed to disclose that Nikita was an alias on her bar application, which asked if she’d ever been known by any other names. She also failed to disclose her former position as a prostitute on the employment section, and stated that she had not committed any possible misconduct.
