Summary: Mayer Brown has added Alejandro López Ortiz to their Paris office as part of their International Arbitration group, making it their second recent addition.
Mayer Brown has thickened their International Arbitration group once again, having just added a partner last July in Houston. Their new partner, Alejandro López Ortiz has joined their Paris office, which he will work with astride their Houston Office.
Ortiz worked with international arbitrator Bernardo Cremades, after which he joined Hogan Lovells, before finally arriving on the Mayer Brown team, as the firm announced this September.
Having appeared before many arbitral institutions – ICSID, the ICC, LCIA, ICDR, SIAC and the Madrid Court of Arbitration – Ortiz has long experience in these matters. He’s represented various Latin American governments, in investment treaty claims or counseling in enforcing proceedings of an ICSID award, and also represented construction companies in Mexico.
“Alejandro is an important strategic addition to our international arbitration, energy, construction, and Latin American Arbitration capabilities,” said Raid Abu-Manneh, Mayer Brown’s International Arbitration group co-leader. “Dividing his time between the firm’s Paris and Houston offices, he will work closely with our energy practice throughout and beyond the Latin American region, adding substantially to the firm’s commercial and investor/state arbitration capabilities. Ortiz is a Spanish national and graduated from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and the London School of Economics.
