Akerman LLP announced on Thursday that the law firm has appointed noted real estate attorney Eric Rapkin as the office managing partner of the law firm’s Fort Lauderdale office. Rapkin is a partner with the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group. He succeeds David Ristaino in the position. Ristaino will be joining Independent Living Systems as vice president and general counsel. Independent Living Systems is a client of Akerman and considered one of the fastest growing healthcare companies in USA.
The law firm reported that as office managing partner Rapkin’s duties would include strengthening the firm’s relationships with civic and business leaders in the Fort Lauderdale area and Broward County. Besides helping the management with lateral recruiting, Rapking will now also coordinate the firm’s pro bono efforts and programs to support education and youth development. He will continue serving clients in major real estate transactions.

Rapkin is recognized as one of the leading real estate attorneys in Florida by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and The Legal 500. He is a past president of the NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association) South Florida Chapter and has served as chair of the South Florida Idea Exchange Committee for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and will be the co-chair of the 2015 ICSC Florida Conference.
He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Florida and his J.D. degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
