Summary: The law firm of Arnstein & Lehr has announced that its newly elected chairman will be Jeffrey B. Shapiro, who takes over beginning on October 1 of this year.
It was announced on Monday by the law firm of Arnstein & Lehr LLP that Jeffrey B. Shapiro has been elected the Chairman of the firm, according to a press release. The firm said that he will take over the position beginning on October 1, 2014. Shapiro takes over for Raymond J. Werner, who served for more than 10 years as Chairman and Managing Partner at the firm.
In the same release, the firm announced that Michael L. Gesas will take over as Managing Partner at the firm’s Chicago office and Barry A. Chatz will work as the partner-in-charge of firm-wide strategic planning and acquisitions.
“It has been a true privilege to serve as Arnstein’s Managing Partner, driving growth in Chicago and other key markets and navigating the firm through new business opportunities, all the while helping clients align their legal and business strategies,” Werner said. “As we look forward, it is reassuring to know Jeff is an outstanding leader and will be an excellent managing partner, who will drive change with an unwavering commitment to client service. I am eager to support him through this transition.”
Shapiro has more than 14 years at Arnstein and recently worked as the Florida Managing Partner.
“It is an honor to follow on Ray’s heels as managing partner. He has positioned Arnstein for success. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to build upon that momentum as I step into this new role,” said Shapiro. “We embed ourselves in the challenges our clients face. Our attorneys are advisors, strategists and dealmakers and know their clients’ businesses on a very specific, integral level. I look forward to working alongside Barry and Michael to champion the firm in a new way and further our commitment to outstanding client service.”
Gesas is the Chair of Arnstein’s Litigation Practice Group and he has more than 30 years of experience in law.
“Michael is entrenched in the legal community, both in the Chicago area and beyond. As an energetic leader and active role model for our lawyers and staff, he is perfectly suited to accomplish the Chicago office’s goals for 2014 and many years to follow,” Shapiro said.
Chatz works as the Chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights and Restructuring Practice Group.
“Barry has been and will continue to be a key member of our leadership team,” Werner said. “For years Barry has been involved in the strategic development of our firm and I’m excited for him to take on this formal role, setting the groundwork for the future of our Chicago office as well as in critical markets throughout the Midwest and Southeast regions, and possibly beyond. I look forward to working with Jeff, Barry and Michael on the many endeavors that lie ahead.”
In line with the firm’s partnership agreement, Werner will step down from his post at the end of the year. He will still practice law with Arnstein.
