Former Haslam Aide, Samar Ali, Joins Nashville’s Bone McAllester Norton

Summary: Samar S. Ali, an attorney known for advising Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam on economic development issues and the White House on fighting terrorism, has joined Nashville boutique law firm Bone McAllester Norton. Ali is a former White House Fellow, and also served as Assistant Commissioner for International Affairs in Tennessee Government.

The law firm’s website says Samar Ali concentrates on cross-border transactions, international law and private diplomacy. She has joined the law firm’s Administrative Law, Business and Corporate Law and International Law practices.

In her days of working for the White House, in 2010, Ms. Ali worked on foreign and domestic policy issues relating to national security. She served as an advisor on the senior staff of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Ali began her working career as an associate corporate law attorney with the law firm of Hogan Lovells US LLP. She worked there in the firm’s head office in Washington DC, and also in the UAE. She was instrumental and establishing Hogan Lovell’s Abu Dhabi office.

Ms. Ali is a graduate of Vanderbilt University (B.A.’03), where she served as Student Body President, and of Vanderbilt University Law School (J.D.’06). She serves as a member of the Vanderbilt University Alumni Board, and is also an Adjunct Professor with Vanderbilt University, where she teaches courses in international relations.
