Corporate attorneys work with various businesses and organizations. These attorneys assist these companies with deals and other transactions such as mergers and acquisitions. Corporate attorneys may work for a small local business or for a Fortune 500 company. Regardless of the size of the company they represent, these attorneys must know the ins and outs of corporate law so that they can advise their clients accordingly.

There are also significant differences between publicly held companies, which have shares of stock traded on the stock market, and privately held companies, which are owned by shareholders. Corporate attorneys must understand the significant differences between these two types of companies when making decisions and giving legal advice to their clients.

Many corporate attorneys work in private practice and provide legal guidance to their clients as they enter into and carry out various business transactions. These attorneys may work in private law firms or in businesses as in-house corporate counsel.

There are four in-house corporate positions available in the Buffalo area.

The first position, Compliance Manager (Buffalo), requires at least seven years’ experience in banking or compliance, or a J.D. with five years of banking or financial services experience. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing compliance risks related to all aspects of privacy regulations. The candidate will advise business units on privacy issues and will ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place. Training needs will be evaluated as well. There is also a need for a business planning director in Williamsville, New York. A J.D. or its equivalent is highly desirable. This position will lead a team responsible for reviewing and approving software licenses, hardware, consulting services, software as a service (SaaS) and hosting transactions on behalf of the Senior Vice President, Global Business Units. This candidate will work with sales and operations of business to ensure consistency, create a framework for cross-sharing of knowledge and best practices, and provide alignment between corporate and business unit objectives. A third position is available for a Corporate Attorney/Information Technology Attorney in Williamsville, New York. This candidate will be part of a team focused on Global Business Unit Tier 2 approvals. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing and approving software license, hardware, consulting services, software as a service (SaaS) and hosting transactions on behalf of the Senior Vice President. The candidate will resolve issues arising from acquired legacy contracts and improving Global Business Unit processes, applying consistent transaction standards across all lines of business. This role is very important in applying and upholding the company’s consistent and rigorous business practices. There is also a corporate attorney position in Williamsville, New York. A J.D. or its equivalent is highly desirable. This candidate will report to the Vice President and will lead a team responsible for hosting transactions on behalf of the Senior Vice President, Global Business Units. The candidate will work with sales and operations teams in each line of business to ensure consistency and quality of executive summary submissions, to provide visibility to and resolution of business practices issues across all lines of business, create framework for cross-sharing of knowledge and best practices, and provide alignment between corporate and business unit objectives and individual transactions.
