Young Boy from Ferguson Discusses Jobs, Race and Police Brutality

Summary: An 11-year-old boy from Ferguson, Marquis Govan, sat down with a reporter recently to discuss all things Ferguson, including jobs and police.

We have stumbled across a video online that features an 11-year-old boy from Ferguson, Missouri. The boy, Marquis Govan, is speaking with a reporter about his hometown, the lack of jobs and police abuse.

Govan talks with the reporter for about four-and-a-half minutes and every second of it is worth your time.

One of Govan’s most telling comments from the interview is as follows:

“I would just like to say that the people of Ferguson I believe don’t need teargas thrown at them. I believe they need jobs.”

He continued by talking about what the community needs, saying, “There has always been a problem even when Ferguson never happened. The minority community, we need more African American police officers.”

Govan comes from a very tough background, being put into foster care the minute he was born and then handed over to his great grandmother and guardian Jenny Bracey.

Govan is so involved in the community that he goes with his family members to vote during each election. He spends his time watching cable news programs instead of playing video games or watching sports.
