Summary: One of the most notorious opponents of the NYPD, lawyer Sanford Rubenstein, has become the focus of a rape case following the 60th birthday party for Al Sharpton.
Sanford Rubenstein has been an enemy of the New York Police Department for quite some time, grabbing headlines in some of the city’s most known brutality cases as a lawyer, according to ABC News.
Now, Rubenstein is a possible rape suspect.
A member of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network has accused Rubenstein of sexually assaulting her. The reported assault came at his apartment following the 60th birthday party of Sharpton on October 1.
A mattress and bags of evidence were removed from Rubenstein’s apartment by officers who searched the place.
The lawyer for Rubenstein, Benjamin Brafman, said that his client has done nothing wrong and is confident that there will not be any charges filed.

Sharpton, who is a close friend of Rubenstein, said that if he needs to choose sides, he will stand by the woman in the case.
“I have never seen anything in his character to suggest that he would assault a woman,” Sharpton told The Associated Press. “But I don’t see anything to suggest she’s a liar. I’m between a rock and a hard place here.”
