Summary: Well-known elder law attorney Brett Thompson has joined Raleigh-based law firm Smith Debnam in its elder law and advocacy services. Thompson worked in television news before earning a law degree, and is a current member of the Elder Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
Raleigh-based law firm Smith Debnam has hired Brett Thompson, an elder law attorney with an established practice concentrated in all matters related to Elder Law, including estate planning, probate litigation, Medicaid planning, guardianship, and VA benefits.
With the addition of Thompson, the firm strengthens its elder law and advocacy services – an area of law set to increase in demand as 70 million baby boomers race to retirement over the next few decades, many without enough savings to withstand a serious medical condition or prolonged illness.
Thompson will devote his time to providing seniors with independent, legal counsel on protecting their rights and financial assets for their post-retirement years.
“Make no mistake, we are in the people business,” said Smith Debnam founding partner, Thurston Debnam. “Since our inception, we have been fortunate to attract and retain good, quality people. Brett is no exception. He is an excellent attorney who takes great care of his clients. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board.”
Thompson received his Juris Doctor from the University Of North Carolina School Of Law and a B.A. from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Prior to earning his law degree, Thompson spent more than a decade working in television news, including positions at CNN in Washington, DC; Bay News 9 in Tampa, FL; and News 14 Carolina in Raleigh, NC. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and Elder Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
