Consumers can use this service online or using a free iOS application. The customer will need to provide his or her zip code and the type of legal issue he or she needs help with.
Consumers must then enter credit card and contact information to proceed. An attorney will call the consumer within 15 minutes or the purchase will be refunded 100 percent.
There are nine categories covered by the service; family, small business, divorce, real estate, immigration, criminal defense, landlord-tenant, bankruptcy/debt and employment.
The service is available in 15 states and more will be added soon. So far, the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin offer the service.
“At Avvo, we want to make access to legal help as routine as getting a medical check-up, and Avvo Advisor is a game-changing step towards that goal,” said Mark Britton, Avvo’s founder and CEO. “Avvo Advisor provides professional legal help to consumers on their terms, with clear pricing and on-demand delivery, saving significant time, money and hassle – the very things that keep many people from hiring a lawyer.”
“You control your availability via text, whenever and wherever you want to receive Avvo Advisor sessions.”
When a consumer purchases a session, an attorney from that state and practice area is notified via text message. The attorney must respond to the text to claim the session and then make the call within 15 minutes.
When the call is complete, the entire fee is deposited into the attorney’s account.
