Former Co-Founder of Tinder Receives $1 Million in Settlement

Summary: Whitney Wolfe, a former co-founder of Tinder, settled with the company for $1 million following her sexual harassment lawsuit.

In June, Tinder was sued by Whitney Wolfe for sexual harassment. Wolfe was a co-founder of the company. She also named IAC in the lawsuit, which is the parent company of Tinder, according to Business Insider.

The lawsuit was settled back in September and it has been reported that Wolfe won a little more than $1 million in the settlement. She has since been forced out of the company.

Wolfe claimed that Tinder co-founder Justin Mateen sexually harassed her, which she said happened for the majority of the time she worked at the company.

According to the lawsuit, Wolfe was called a liar, a slut and that Mateen became “verbally controlling and abusive” toward her after they broke up in 2013. She also claims that the actions of Mateen forced her to leave the company.

The lawsuit also states that her co-founder title was removed by Mateen because having five of them was too many.

Wolfe claims Mateen told her it would be “slutty” for her to be a co-founder of an app such as Tinder, which is for “hook-ups.”

“Whitney’s lawsuit against Tinder has been resolved (without admission of wrongdoing),” John Mullan, a partner at Rudy, Exelrod, Zieff & Lowe, LLP, the firm representing Wolfe, said. “She is proud of her role as a cofounder of Tinder and of the role she played in the app’s success. She is now pleased to be able to focus her energy, talents, and ideas on exciting new opportunities.”
