Bad days. We all have them. Sometimes it’s a bad week, or a bad month. The good news is that we can control our mood and therefore control our day. It’s all about taking in the bad, and then focusing on the good. Today I’m going to share a few little things you can do to improve your day.
- Get moving in the morning. Many of us roll out of bed, throw on our work clothes and begrudgingly head off to another day in the office. But what if your day started differently? Consider getting up and going on a quick walk – whether it’s 10 minutes or 30 minutes, it can significantly improve your mood.
- Reach out to a friend. You know those friends that always make you smile? Send them a quick text or email just letting them know you are thinking of them. Ask how that interview went, tell them something funny that happened to you, or ask if they’re keeping up with your mutually favorite TV show.
- Watch a funny YouTube clip. This may sound silly, but when I studied for finals during law school, taking 5 minutes to watch a couple funny clips always made me laugh and improved my mood. Look at some cute puppies rolling around, a favorite scene from The Office, whatever makes you happy! You’ll be surprised what it can do to your attitude.
- Smile. This one may seem simple, but sometimes just smiling can unlock your subconscious into thinking you’re happy and you will become happy. I remember someone told me to do this when I was running my marathon. In the last 6 miles I did and it significantly improved my mood.
So no matter how bad your day is going, you can always make at least a few moments better by having a better attitude and using these tips!
