Summary: The law school at Indiana Tech, which opened in 2013, has named Charles P. Cercone dean.
Charles P. Cercone has been chosen as the dean for the Indiana Tech University Law School, according to The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.
The school is not that old, having opened in August of 2013 in Fort Wayne, which is where the main campus of Indiana Tech is located.
Cercone will begin serving as dean on January 5, 2015. He is working as the dean of faculty at Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley Law School right now. He has been in this position since 2003.

He joined Cooley Law School as a professor back in 1996. During his time with the school, Cercone has also worked as the acting dean of students.
“Dean Cercone brings a long and successful track record in strategic planning, curriculum development and support for student success to his role here at Indiana Tech Law School,” said Dr. Arthur E. Snyder, Indiana Tech president. “His experience and skills will enable us to continue building on the strong foundation we’ve established for our law school.”
“As we look ahead to Dean Cercone joining our team, I’d also like to express my deep gratitude to Interim Dean dré cummings for his work in leading the law school these last several months,” Snyder continued. “Dean cummings and the law faculty and staff achieved much in welcoming our second strong class of law students, in preparing an effective and exhaustive self-study for ABA accreditation, and in hosting the ABA’s site team on their accreditation visit in September. Dean cummings will remain part of the law school team as vice dean and professor of law.”
Cercone has experience as a practicing attorney with Buchanan Ingersoll Professional Corporation; Wilkie Farr & Gallagher; Bingham McCutchen, LLP and Dewey Ballantine. He practices General Litigation Defense, Environmental Compliance and Corporate and Tax Law.
“I’m honored to be chosen as dean of Indiana Tech Law School,” Cercone said. “The faculty and staff are an outstanding team who in a short time have established the law school as a place for top-quality, practice- based education for students. I look forward being a part of such a promising, progressive new school.”
Cercone belongs to the American Bar Association and is admitted to practice in Michigan, New York, the United States Supreme Court and the Federal Courts in New York and Michigan.

He earned his law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
