The previous ban on Cuban cigars will be lifted in the United States.

Summary: After being banned in the United States for over fifty years, Cuban cigars will become legal again in the near future.

Pretty soon, United States citizens will be able to legally enjoy what has been an illegal item since 1962: the Cuban cigar. The Huffington Post reports that on Wednesday, President Barack Obama’s plan to relax trade and diplomatic relations with Cuba was announced. A provision will be enacted that will allow Americans who travel to Cuba to bring back $400 of Cuban goods to the United States. Of that $400, $100 may be tobacco and/or alcohol products.

Last year, a Georgetown Law student was wanted for spying for Cuba.

“That can include cigars,” a senior administration official informed reporters on Wednesday during a conference call. Once travelers return to the United States, they will not be allowed to sell the Cuban cigars or alcohol.

In 2013, New York City proposed raising the smoking age to 21.

The cigars were first outlawed by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 as part of a broad embargo. However, before the embargo was enforced, JFK made sure to order 1,000 Cuban cigars for his own personal enjoyment.

Ten electronic cigarette makers have been sued over a patent dispute.

Although there was a period of time when the few Americans allowed to travel to Cuba could return with $100 worth of cigars, such had not been the case recently.

Will you try to get your hands on a Cuban cigar now that they will be legal?
