Teen Version of Bonnie and Clyde Arrested in Florida

Summary: The teen version of Bonnie and Clyde was arrested peacefully on Sunday morning in Florida following a crime spree.

The teen version of Bonnie and Clyde was finally arrested on Sunday morning in Florida, according to The Washington Post.

The couple went on a two-week crime spree across the South that began in Kentucky.

Dalton Hayes, 18, and Cheyenne Phillips, 13, were reported missing on January 3. They were taken into custody on Sunday morning in Panama City Beach.

The teens have been accused of stealing at least three vehicles in various states and Hayes is also wanted on charges of custodial interference for luring Phillips from her home.

The couple was found asleep in a stolen Toyota Tundra by officers on Sunday morning. The Tundra was stolen in Georgia, according to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers in Panama City Beach acted on information from the United States Marshals Service to make the arrest in a parking lot at a Kirkland’s.

“The vehicle was surrounded by law enforcement, and both Hayes and Phillips were taken into custody without further incident,” the statement said from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

Phillips was handed over to the Florida Department of Children and Families, while Hayes was taken to the Bay County Jail. The pair will be extradited to Kentucky, where they face multiple felony charges.

“In total, Hayes and Phillips were on the run for approximately 14 days,” the statement added. “However, it should be noted that throughout the multi-state hunt for them, no civilian was injured, neither one of them were injured and no police officer was injured.”

Phillips was reported missing by her father. He said nothing seemed wrong when she left the home on January 3. Tammy Martin, Hayes’s mom, said that she slept at their house that night.

Martin said the couple was dating for three months and believed Cheyenne was 19. It is not known if Phillips’ parents knew she was dating an 18-year-old.

According to Hayes’ mom, Dalton texted the following not long after being reported missing:

“Mommy, don’t worry. I’m fine, okay — plenty of money and food. Love you, good night, sweet dreams.”

Police think that the pair bounced from friends and family members’ homes and then stayed in abandoned houses and trailers in Kentucky. The couple stole a Toyota from a garage on January 11, which is when things turned criminal.

The teens were seen in South Carolina and Georgia as they traveled towards Florida.

“I know Dalton, and he has a history of making bad, bad decisions,” Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said in an interview with CNN. “I was the school resource officer before I was elected sheriff. Dalton is known to have disciplinary and defiance issues at the high school with authority.”
